Perwakim's views on motor insurance rebates
Perwakim, an association of general insurance agents in Malaysia, will meet BNM and PIAM to discuss motor insurance rebates.
Perwakim's views on rebates:
- Detrimental to both agents and customers
- Only benefit insurance companies (no reasons were given on why this is so)
- Will result in retrenchment of staff of smaller agencies
In Malaysia, there are 50,000 insurance agents of which 40% are full time.

For government, they always think about what benefits they are. In the market, some customers said rebate of 10% for motor insurance basic premium is that government take care of them in this bad economic environment. Politician plans to get more votes from the crowd but sacrifice the insurance agents. Life & General Insurance Agents pay more dedication to the nation but the government and the politician always rebate us sad and miserable presents.
